Black Braille (Canada)

Black Braille (Canada)

Fall 2013 brings us the 3rd year for a braille Starbucks Card. It started in 2011 with the Fall Braille, then it was re-released in 2012. For 2013 we have a new design called Black Braille - due to the gold icons over a dark background. Officially released October 1st, 2013 in connection with October, National Disability Awareness month. This Card, as well as the 2011 and 2012 versions are all stamped STARBUCKS in braille. The gold icons include a French press, a croissant , a top view of 3 mugs, coffee beans and a paper cup. The Braille system is a method that is widely used by blind people to read and write, and was the first digital form of writing that was devised in 1825 by Louis Braille. Each Braille character, or cell, is made up of six dot positions, arranged in a rectangle containing two columns of three dots each. A dot may be raised at any of the six positions to form sixty-four (2 6 ) possible subsets, including the arrangement in which no dots are raised. The Canadian version has the bi-lingual English/French on the reverse.
